Caste has played crucial role in Indian Democracy. Many organizations based on caste came into existence even before the constitution came into force. The illiterate people, who didn’t understand politics were mobilized to organize themselves by appealing to their caste sentiments by the self interested politicians. The caste system dominates Indian politics so deeply ,effecting not only the formation of political parties but also their manifestos. Various groups based on caste and communities have been formed in various states, fomenting hatred against one another. caste has polarize the national politics. Caste tends to determine electoral nominations, voting behavior now a days. Various castes have started making numerous demands ,whether for reservation, or to categorise them as OBCs etc ,endangering the democratic set up of our country.I think a serious change needed in our election process otherwise India will be divided to so many parts based on caste politics.
